Refrigerant Properties
The properties that refrigerants used in air conditioning must have are:
-
The freezing point must be lower than any temperature that exists in the system to avoid freezing in the evaporator.
-
The latent heat of evaporation must be as high as possible for a small amount of liquid to absorb a large amount of heat.
-
The specific volume should be as low as possible to avoid large sizes in the suction and compression lines.
-
The density must be high to use small liquid lines.
-
The condensing pressures must be raised, to avoid leaks and reduce the condensing temperature.
-
They are not flammable, corrosive, or toxic liquids. In addition, they must have a low electrical conductivity.
-
They must be safe against the risks of fire and explosion.
-
The evaporation temperature should be below ambient temperature.
-
Its toxicity must be low, so that the risks in handling it are low.
-
Easy to mix with the lubricating oil used.
